IT'S THE YEAR OF THE WATER DRAGON! 15-DAY CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION 2012 Here’s a short guide to the Chinese traditions involved each day of the 15-Day celebration. BEFORE THE CELEBRATION BEGINS (by Sunday, January 22, 2012): • Make sure you have swept and cleaned every corner of your entire house. Then put away all your cleaning supplies! • Settle up all your old debts prior to the New Year. This is a time of great fear for debtors! • Shoot off firecrackers on New Year's Eve to usher in a burst of good energy! • Open all doors and windows AT MIDNIGHT to let the old year out! • Some even give their home a new coat of paint on New Year's Eve to help usher in new energy. • Get your haircut ahead of time, if it needs it, because you don't want to cut your hair at all during the entire 15-day Chinese New Year, or you'll suffer a financial setback. • NEW YEAR'S EVE DINNER is one of the most important family occasions of the year!
